This article covers the following:
Overview
The Version History feature in the Visual Editor provides an automated audit trail and version-tracking mechanism for your website campaigns. It allows you to track modifications made by different team members, view exact timestamps of changes, filter histories, and revert to previous configurations safely. This system prevents accidental overwrites and ensures full accountability throughout the design phase.
For example, a designer might personalize a hero banner on your landing page on June 5. If a subsequent layout change breaks the user interface, you can easily open the history panel, locate the precise modification saved by that designer, and examine the timeline to restore the stable visual state before the layout modification occurred.
Access the Version History Panel
To access the version history:
- Open the Visual Editor for your specific campaign variant.
- Go to the left navigation sidebar.
- Click History. A panel appears displaying all the versions of modifications made.
Filter Modifications
To locate precise modifications when working on dense, multi-author campaign setups:
- Select the Show only named versions checkbox at the top of the version entries to filter out automated micro-saves and look exclusively for modifications titled by your team.
- Click Filter (three horizontal lines) at the top of the panel to refine entries based on time and author.
- From the Modified on dropdown, select a time-based parameter (such as the past 7 days or 30 days). The default value is Anytime.
- From the Modified by dropdown, select a specific team member to isolate their contributions. The default value is Anyone.
Manage Version History
Based on your requirement you can name, view or restore a particular version.
Name a Version
Use the Name this version option to provide a distinct name to your modified version. This allows your team to recognize critical change events within dense timelines. To name your modifications:
- Locate the version entry you want to name in the timeline.
- Click the More Options menu (three vertical dots) next to the entry.
- Select Name this version.
- Enter a clear, descriptive title for example, Personalized hero banner.
- Click Save. The timeline updates to display your custom title, making it easily searchable when the Show only named versions filter is applied.
View Historical Versions
To view the historical versions of your variations:
- In the Version History panel, scroll down to view older entries.
- Select any specific version entry (for example, Personalize hero banner saved on 5 Jun, 12:06 PM by John Doe).
- Click the More Options menu (three vertical dots) next to the entry.
- Select View this version.
Note: Selecting a historical entry switches your editor workspace into a read-only preview mode. This lets you inspect previous component styles without modifying your live configuration.
Restore a Previous Version
If an unexpected layout issue occurs, or if you want to pivot back to an earlier design strategy, you can revert your variation to any historical state. To restore a older version of the variation:
- In the Version History panel, select the version entry you want to restore.
- Click the More Actions menu icon (three vertical dots) next to the selected version.
- Select Restore this version. The editor canvas automatically updates to match the selected historical state, and a new restoration entry is added to the top of the version history timeline.
