Overview

To view heatmaps for a URL, go to Insights > Heatmaps and Enter the URL for which you want to see the heatmap field, enter the URL for which you want to view the heatmap.

If you wish to include or exclude the data from certain URLs in the heatmap or if you want to define advanced pattern-matching options to include either a broad URL with wildcard entries or a specific URL, you can do this in the Advanced tab present above the URL field.

Viewing Heatmap for Multiple Pages

When you open a heatmap, you see that the visitors’ clicks are plotted on the map for the URL where the heatmap is running. Using the Wingify heatmap tool, you can view the combined heatmap of all URLs where your test is running, as a single report. Heatmap tool in Wingify typically lets you:

Viewing Heatmaps for Multiple URLs with the Same Pattern

You can view a consolidated report of the heatmap running on multiple pages on your website, using a page pattern. To do this, you can create a URL pattern that matches multiple pages of your website by substituting variable parts of the URL with the wildcard * or an asterisk. The wildcard * matches any part of the URL (including blanks).

Procedure

Open the heatmap from the campaign page.
From the bar present at the bottom of the heatmap, select the URL matches pattern.

Note: While viewing the heatmap for a URL, if the bar at the bottom hides any content or a portion of your page, we recommend you toggle its visibility. To do this, set your focus to the page and press Command+Shift+2 (MacOS) or Control+Shift+2 (other operating systems).
Provide the URL patterns for which you want to view the heatmap and click Go. To learn how to define page patterns using a wildcard, refer to Using URL Patterns in Wingify

Viewing Heatmaps for All Pages

You can view a consolidated report of the heatmaps of all the pages of your website, regardless of whether they share a pattern or not.

Procedure

Open the heatmap from the campaign page.
From the bar present at the bottom of the heatmap, select the URL matches pattern.
To plot a heatmap for all the pages running under the campaign, provide the URL pattern as * and then click Go.

NOTE: When you open a consolidated heatmap, the report shows the element clicks on the default URL. These clicks are common to other pages where the campaign is running (such as the navigation bar, footer, and so on). For heatmaps created as part of a test, the maximum number of clicks that can be plotted on the heatmap report is 100k. However, there is no limit to the number of clicks plotted on standalone “Advanced” Heatmaps created.

Special Functions

When you’re looking at the heatmap of a page, you will find the heat spots on the elements that the visitors have clicked. But sometimes, as you scroll down the page, the heat spots remain still and do not move along with their respective locations. For example, consider that you’re viewing the heatmap of a page that features a list of products. Here, you see that the intensity of heat is higher on a specific product, highlighting that the product has been clicked more times. Now, as you scroll down the page, chances are there that the heat spots remain in the same location on the screen while only the page moves up. This might result in a wrong suggestion, representing the heat distribution on a different product. Also, you will not be able to see the right heatmap for the rest of the page. In order to overcome this, click anywhere inside the heatmap and press the Shift key. Now, the heatmap gets refreshed, featuring the heat spots at the right locations.
When you’re viewing the heatmap of a page that contains menu items that feature a dropdown menu (also known as a sub-menu), you will not be able to see the heat distribution for the items in the dropdown list directly.

Note: This is applicable only to the sub-menu items that appear on hover.

For example, consider that you’re viewing the homepage of your e-commerce website, and you want to view the heat distribution on the dropdown corresponding to the Clothing menu to find which section was often visited. But you will not be able to view it directly. For this, you need to perform the following steps:

Press the Control key and hold it while you hover over the main menu items on the navbar.
Once the sub-menu items open up, press the Shift key once while you still hold the Control key. This will refresh the heatmap, and you will be able to see it for the sub-menu items.
