Choosing to split the visitor traffic in your test when a visitor lands on your website can significantly impact how long it takes to complete the test, as one variation might have less exposure than the others. For example, 80% of traffic can be allocated to the control and 20% to the test variation, or 40% to the control and 20% to each variant, and so on.
Wingify's traffic allocation feature is valuable for a controlled implementation of changes to your website, particularly when introducing a new design or a feature. Instead of immediately exposing all visitors to the new version, start with a small percentage, like 10%.
This controlled approach lets you closely monitor the new design's performance while keeping most visitors on the familiar old version, allowing for early detection of issues or negative reactions.
As you gain confidence, gradually increase the traffic allocation (e.g., from 10% to 25%). Thus, minimize risks by allowing incremental testing and adjustments for a successful deployment based on real visitor data and feedback.
By default, Wingify allocates 100% of your visitors to become part of your campaign. If you require exposing it only to a certain percentage, you can adjust this value accordingly. Once you confirm the total volume of your visitors to be shown the campaign, you can then split this volume among the control and the variations/combinations.
To allocate your visitor volume to your campaign, open your campaign and perform the following steps:
- From the campaign control pane on the left, go to Configuration > Variations and Traffic > Traffic Allocation.
- Use the slider or directly specify the number in the text field to configure the visitor volume that you would like to subject to your campaign.
- If you wish to split your traffic volume among your variations, modify it per variation in the Traffic split dropdown.
The Traffic split column in the table is, by default, set to distribute your visitor volume equally to your variations and control. If you require to keep it specific to each of them, click on the Custom Distribution option from the dropdown and edit the traffic split for control and variations in their respective rows. If you’re concerned about spending a considerable portion of your visiting population on a variation that doesn’t perform as expected, you can choose Auto-distribute (Multi-arm bandit) to keep the allocation dynamically redirected to the better-performing variation.
