Overview

You can use Google Tag Manager (GTM) to insert your Wingify Engage (formerly PushCrew) code on your website. This will make the process of setting up faster.

How to Deploy Wingify Engage with GTM

To deploy Wingify Engage using Google Tag Manager, perform the following steps:

  1. Create a Google Tag Manager Account

    Create an account on Google Tag Manager. Keep this tab open.

  2. Get the code from Settings on your dashboard

    Log in to your dashboard, and then click Copy Code under the SmartCode tab in Settings.

  3. Copy SmartCode

    The next window that appears shows your SmartCode. Copy this code.

Note: We do not recommend installing the Wingify SmartCode via GTM if you are using Wingify or plan to use it soon. This is because all tag managers asynchronously load Wingify code, which can cause page flickering on your test pages. In addition, using tag managers can result in delayed loading of the Wingify code, causing timeout issues and preventing visitors from becoming part of the test. 

Therefore, we recommend placing the SmartCode in the </head> tag of your website in such cases. Adding the code snippet in the head of a web page helps execute the code faster and does not slow down the loading of the rest of the page.

  1. Go to Google Tag Manager and add a new tag

    Go back to your Google Tag Manager account (the window opened in step 1) and click Add a New Tag under Workspace.

  2. Give the tag a name and choose Custom HTML in Tag Configuration

    In the next window, give your tag a name. In the example screenshot below, we named it Theon will be back. Click Tag Configuration, and then choose Custom HTML.

  3. Paste the SmartCode in the box that appears

    Paste the SmartCode from step 3 into the code box.

  4. Go to Advanced Settings and set Tag firing to Once per page

    Scroll down to Advanced Settings below the code input box. Under Tag firing, select Once per page.

  5. Go to the Triggering section and select All Pages

    Scroll down further, click the Triggering section, and select All Pages with the DOM Ready event. As an advanced option, you can choose to fire the tag only on certain pages by clicking the + button in the upper-right corner. This restricts the tag to pages where you want the Wingify Engage opt-in to appear.

  6. Save and publish the changes

    Click Save to save your changes. To publish them to your live website, click Publish in the upper-right corner of your Google Tag Manager dashboard.
