Feature Availability: This feature is available for all Wingify plans and products.
This article covers the following:
Wingify offers a secure and seamless way to sign in to your account using passkeys. A passkey uses your device's built-in authentication method, such as your fingerprint, face scan, or screen lock PIN, to verify your identity. Passkeys eliminate the need to remember and enter a traditional password, streamlining your login experience. This method also enhances security as your passkey data is stored on your device and is never shared.
Passkey login is an alternative authentication method that works along with existing options such as email/password and Single Sign-On (SSO), offering more flexibility in accessing the Wingify platform. It provides a faster, more convenient, and phishing-resistant method for account access.
Prerequisites
To use the passkey feature, you must:
- Have an existing active Wingify account.
- Use a device (desktop, mobile, or tablet) and browser that supports passkeys.
- Have a screen lock (PIN, fingerprint, or facial recognition) enabled on your device.
Use Passkeys to Log In to Wingify
To start using passkeys for logging in to Wingify, you first need to create one from your Wingify account.
Create Your First Passkey
To create your first passkey:
- Log in to your Wingify account using your standard login method, for example, email and password or SSO.
- Navigate to the Profile menu from the top right, and then select Settings.
- Navigate to Profile details.
- Scroll down to the Passkey Support section and click Add your first passkey.
- A browser prompt appears to create a passkey. You can choose to save the passkey on the current device, which is the default option. Alternatively, select Save another way to view other options.
Note: The available options may vary depending on your browser, operating system, and device. Common options may include iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, QR code for phone or tablet, or a USB security key. - Once you have selected an option, click Continue, and follow the on-screen instructions on your chosen device or authenticator to verify your identity. This process may involve using your fingerprint, face scan, or entering your device PIN or password. If you choose Use a phone or tablet, the system prompts you to scan a QR code using your mobile or tablet’s camera to continue the setup. Before proceeding, ensure that you enable Bluetooth on both devices. This prerequisite applies only if you want to use a passkey created on a mobile device to sign in to the account from another laptop or desktop device.
- Once verified, a confirmation message appears, and the system adds a new passkey to your Wingify account. You can find the new passkey under the Passkeys section.
With your passkey successfully created, you are now ready with secure, passwordless access to your Wingify account from this device. You can add multiple passkeys or delete existing ones from your profile. For more information, see Manage Your Passkeys.
Log In to Your Wingify Account with a Passkey
Once you have a passkey saved for your Wingify account, you can use it for quick and secure access the next time you sign in to your Wingify account.
To sign in to Wingify using a passkey:
- On the Wingify login page, click Sign in with Passkey.
- Your browser displays a prompt with a list of saved passkeys available on your device or linked cloud account, such as your Chrome Profile, iCloud Keychain, or Google Password Manager. Select the passkey associated with your Wingify account.
- Verify your identity using your device’s security method, for example, fingerprint, face recognition, or a PIN code.
Note: Your biometric data, used for fingerprint or face unlock, stays on your device and is not shared with Wingify.
Upon successful verification, the system logs you into your Wingify account.
Manage Your Passkeys
You can add multiple passkeys or delete saved ones from your Wingify profile.
Add a New Passkey You can add multiple passkeys for different devices or authenticators, for example, one on your laptop's Chrome profile and another on your phone via iCloud Keychain.
Note: You can add only one passkey per authenticator for each user.
To add a new passkey:
- Navigate to the Passkeys section in your profile.
- Click Add new passkey and follow the same steps outlined in the Create Your First Passkey section.
The new passkey is added to the Passkeys section of your profile and is now available for use.
Delete a Passkey
If you lose a device on which you created a passkey or no longer use it, it is recommended that you delete that passkey from your Wingify Account.
To delete an existing passkey:
- Navigate to the Passkeys section in your profile.
- Locate the passkey you wish to remove and click the icon next to it.
- A confirmation pop-up appears. Click Delete to confirm. The passkey is deleted and no longer available for signing in to your Wingify account from that device.
Note: Deleting a passkey from Wingify revokes its access to your account. However, the passkey may still appear as a login option in your browser until you remove it from your device or password manager's settings, for example, Chrome's passkey settings. For more information on how to remove it from your device, refer to the respective device’s help documentation.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Recommended Solution |
|---|---|---|
| I see a Passkey already exists error when trying to add a new passkey. | The authenticator you are currently selecting already contains a passkey for Wingify. While some third-party password managers, such as 1Password, allow multiple passkeys for a single account, most platform authenticators, such as your Chrome profile, Windows Hello, or iCloud Keychain, limit you to having one passkey per account to prevent redundancy. | Try saving the new passkey to a different device or a third-party password manager if you wish to have a backup. If you are trying to replace an old passkey on a native authenticator, such as Chrome, delete the existing passkey from your browser or device settings first, then add the new one. |
| The passkey creation process fails with a Request timed out error. | The passkey creation process requires you to complete the verification on your device within 30 seconds. It is likely that you exceeded the time limit. | Restart the Add new passkey process and ensure you complete the verification steps on your device within 30 seconds when prompted. |
| Passkey setup failed. | Check for these possible causes: Temporary system glitch Device security disabled Bluetooth disabled Outdated software Persistent failure | Retry the setup process immediately. Enable a screen lock (PIN, Pattern) or Biometrics (FaceID/TouchID). Switch on Bluetooth (required for cross-device setup). Update your browser and operating system to the latest versions. Contact Wingify Support if the issue persists. |
FAQs
-
How many passkeys can I create?
You can create as many passkeys as you need. However, certain authenticators behave differently:- Platform Authenticators, for example, Chrome Profile, iCloud Keychain: Typically allow only one passkey per user account to prevent duplicates. If you try to add a second one to the same profile, you will likely encounter a Passkey already exists error.
-
Third-Party Password Managers, for example, 1Password: These often allow you to store multiple passkeys for the same account within a single vault.
-
What happens if I lose a device that has my passkey?
If you have passkeys saved on different devices or synced to your cloud account, such as Google or iCloud, you can use one of those to sign in. If you only had one passkey on the lost device, you can still access your Wingify account by using another registered login method, such as SSO or your traditional password. Once logged in, to keep your account secure, delete the passkey associated with the lost device from your profile and set up a new one on your new device.
-
Is this feature available for all users in my Wingify account?
Yes, passkeys are a user-specific feature. Any user with access to a Wingify account can create and manage their own passkeys for logging into your account.
