Overview
The integration between Wingify Feature Experimentation (FE) and Wingify Insights links your Feature Experimentation campaigns directly to visitor behavioral data captured across web and mobile app. Once FE and Insights are connected, every visitor evaluated by a Rollout, Testing, Multivariate, or Personalize campaign in FE, is automatically matched to their behavioral data in Wingify Insights, across both web and mobile app. This means you can analyze how visitors behaved on your website through Heatmaps, Session Recordings, Funnels, Forms, and more. Additionally, you can analyze how mobile app users interact with features governed by the same campaign, as captured in Mobile Recordings.
This connection lets you segment and analyze data scoped to the exact campaign and variation a visitor experienced. This means, for any campaign running in your application, you can go beyond metrics and watch how real visitors behave, across Heatmaps, Session Recordings, Mobile Recordings, Funnels, Forms, and more.
For example, if a Testing campaign is evaluating two versions of a landing page, you can segment Session Recordings in Wingify Insights by that campaign to watch how visitors from each variation navigated the page. You can identify where they hesitated, dropped off, or converted. You can then cross-reference this with Heatmaps to see exactly where visitors clicked and scrolled on each version, giving you a fuller picture of campaign performance than the campaign report alone can offer.
For a more granular view of how visitors interact with the pages and features tied to a specific campaign, you can access Heatmaps, Session Recordings, and Mobile Recordings directly within the campaign’s report, without leaving the Feature Experimentation interface. This lets you view exactly where visitors clicked, where they dropped off, and how they navigated through your application, all segmented by the campaign and variation they were evaluated under.
For example, if a rollout campaign is gradually rolling out a new checkout flow, you can watch session recordings from visitors who experienced it to identify friction points before the rollout reaches 100%.
This article explains how interconnectivity between Wingify Feature Experimentation and Wingify Insights works, how to set up the one-time connection, how to view Heatmaps, Session Recordings, and Mobile Recordings from a campaign’s report, and how to segment Feature Experimentation campaign visitors across Wingify Insights modules.
Prerequisites
- Access to both Wingify Feature Experimentation and Wingify Insights on the Pro or Enterprise plan. If you have an existing subscription to either product, you will need to ensure the other is also active on the Pro or Enterprise plan to use this feature.
- The Wingify Feature Experimentation SDK installed and initialized in your application. For more information, see our Wingify Developer Documentation.
- The one-time connection between Wingify Feature Experimentation and Wingify Insights set up by your development team. See the Set Up the Connection section in this article.
- For your website: Wingify SmartCode installed on the pages you want to track with Heatmaps and Session Recordings.

Note that Mobile Insights are available exclusively on the Wingify Insights Enterprise plan. For more information, see our developer documentation on Wingify Mobile Insights.
How Interconnectivity between Feature Experimentation and Insights Works
Feature Experimentation campaigns and Wingify Insights track visitors separately. FE tracks which campaign and variation a visitor was shown, while Wingify Insights captures how that visitor behaved on your site, across Heatmaps, Session Recordings, Funnels, Forms, and other modules. Without a shared link between the two, Wingify cannot connect a visitor's behavioral data in Insights to the campaign under they were evaluated under.
Interconnectivity closes this gap by using the same visitor identifiers across both systems. Once that one-time setup is in place, Wingify automatically matches behavioral data captured across Wingify Insights to the campaign and variation the visitor experienced. So, you can view that data directly from a campaign’s report or segment for it from within any Insights module.
Set Up the Connection between Feature Experimentation and Insights (One-Time Developer Task)
Setting up the connection between Wingify Feature Experimentation and Insights requires implementing the setSessionId and setVisitorId functions on your website. This enables Wingify to match behavioral data across Insights modules to the correct Feature Experimentation campaign and variation.
For full setup instructions, see the Feature Experimentation Interconnectivity Setup Guide. Once the setup is complete, you can use all the workflows described in this article without any further technical steps.
Access Heatmaps, Session Recordings, and Mobile Recordings From a Campaign Report

Segment Feature Experimentation Campaign Visitors Across Wingify Insights
Wingify Insights gives you a unified view of visitor behavior across your entire website. With the interconnectivity between Feature Experimentation and Insights, you can segment data within any Wingify Insights module, including Heatmaps, Session Recordings, Funnels, Forms, and more, by a specific Feature Experimentation campaign, variation, and metric.
This is particularly useful when you want to understand the impact of a campaign beyond what the campaign report shows. For example, you can use Funnels to see how visitors from a specific variation progressed through your conversion flow, or use Forms to analyze how they interacted with a form on a page associated with that campaign.
The following steps use Heatmaps and Session Recordings as examples, but the same segmentation approach applies across all Wingify Insights modules.

Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Recommended Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Heatmaps, Session Recordings, or Mobile Recordings show no results for a campaign in the campaign report. | The one-time connection between your application and Wingify Insights has not been set up or is set up incorrectly. | Ask your developer to confirm the visitor ID code from the setup section is in place and runs before the Wingify SmartCode loads. |
| Recordings show the wrong visitor's data. | The visitor ID used in the setup does not match the ID used in your feature flag rules. | Ask your developer to confirm the same visitor ID is used in both places. |
| The report shows data for only some visitors in the campaign. | Heatmaps, Session Recordings, and Mobile Recordings rely on a sampled set of visitors. | This is expected. Refer to the participant percentage shown in the report header to understand your current sample size. |
