Overview
The metric reports in Wingify provide an interactive workspace for analyzing both real-time and historical data. Unlike traditional metric setups that require predefined tracking rules, Wingify automatically captures tagless events such as page views, clicks, and form submissions when an active subscription and SmartCode are in place. You can then query this raw data directly in the metric report and customize how metrics are calculated.
For example, a product manager analyzing user onboarding can perform all of the following in a single report, without altering underlying Data360 metric definitions:
- Track specific events: Plot a Request Demo click.
- Adjust measurement types: Toggle from Unique Users to Total Sessions.
- Evaluate deep analytics: Measure the 75th percentile of usage frequency.
- Break down segments: Compare Desktop vs. Mobile performance side by side.
Key Benefits
- Conversion monitoring: Monitor key conversion milestones, such as total sign-ups over time, to identify drop-offs or verify that a deployment is performing as expected.
- Specific interaction analysis: Analyze individual user interactions, such as promo-code errors, to identify points of friction in the user journey.
Use Cases
These use cases show how you can use the metric report to analyze and compare tagless events (like page visits and clicks) or custom events within Wingify's interactive Analytics workspace:
- Interaction vs. Context: Pair Page Visit with Click to compare visibility against click-through rate.
- Error auditing: Group Click (Submit Button) with a custom error event to see if failures spike after an interface change.
Prerequisites
- An active Journey Analytics subscription.
- Wingify SmartCode installed on the target website pages.
- Design or higher permissions to create and view reports within Journey Analytics.
Configure and Set Up Metric Reports
To set up a metric report:
- Log in to your Wingify account, then in the left navigation menu, go to Journey Analytics > Overview. Alternatively, go to Journey Analytics > Browse.
- Click + Create, then select Metric. A new metric report page opens with the Metric tab active by default.
- In the left panel, click + Add to add items to your report workspace. In the modal, select from the following:
-
Events: Includes:
- Standard Events: Automatically tracked by default, such as Page Click.
- Custom Events: Configured and managed in Data360.
- System Events: Platform-generated events, such as Campaign Variation Shown.
- Behavior: User friction events, such as Rage Click or Dead Click.
- Metrics: Displays pre-configured metrics created and saved in Data360.
-
Funnels: Displays saved funnels or allows you to build a new one using + Create new. For more information, see Create Funnels in Metric Reports.
Note: Custom events and metrics created in Data360 appear automatically. If an item is missing, verify that it is created and registered in Data360.Every added item lands as a lettered card (A, B, C…) in the left panel.
-
Events: Includes:
- (Optional) Configure property filters on individual cards. Click + filter on an added card to narrow broad events down to specific interactions using AND logic.
For example, to view visitors visiting the Pricing page on the website, include two filters where:- Page URL matches https://wingify.com
- Title = Pricing
- Select your preferred aggregation using the Measured as dropdown on each card. Journey Analytics calculates data at query time, allowing you to change how metrics are aggregated directly within the report without redefining the underlying event in Data360
Depending on your analytical goal, you can choose from three distinct measurement categories:- Standard Counts: Choose Unique Users, Total Events, or Total Sessions to measure base volume.
-
Frequency Metrics: Select Frequency per User to evaluate engagement depth using:
- Average
- Median
- Min/Max
- Percentile
-
Numeric Property Aggregations: For events with numeric parameters such as revenue or time spent, select Aggregate Property or Aggregate Property per User. This unlocks calculations like:
- First Value (initial touchpoint value)
- Sum (total monetary value)
- Average
- Median
- Min/Max
- Percentile
- (Optional) Adjust calculation trends under the card’s More options
menu. Select from:
- Cumulative: Shows a running total of occurrences up to each date (ideal for signups or overall adoption).
- Weekly Average: Shows a 7-day rolling average to smooth out day-to-day fluctuations.
- (Optional) Hover over any card and click More options
menu to Rename, Duplicate, or Remove the card. Drag cards up or down to reorder them in the left panel.
- Click the report title at the top to enter a name for the report.
- Click Save in the top-right corner to save the report to your board.
Create Funnels in Metric Reports
Metric reports allow you to create custom funnels directly within the workspace without changing the global definitions in Data360.
To build a funnel and set your conversion tracking window:
- Click + Add > Funnels. Select an existing saved funnel, or click + Create new to create a new one.
- Define the sequential steps of the journey (for example, Page Visit → Click CTA → Form Submit).
-
In Conversion Criteria, set the conversion window by entering a number and selecting a time unit from the dropdown (minutes, hours, days, weeks, or months).
Note: The conversion criteria is the maximum time allowed for a visitor to complete all funnel steps after starting the first one. - Click
to save your criteria, or
to cancel editing and revert to the previous setting.
Example
To track visitors through a multi-step conversion flow within a 7-day window, configure the following steps:
- Step 1 (Page visit): where Page URL matches https://wingify.com
- Step 2 (Page visit): where Page URL starts with https://wingify.com/demo
- Step 3 (Click): where Page URL starts with https://wingify.com/demo and where Text = Submit
- Set Conversion Criteria to Complete all step within 7 days.
Access and Use Metric Reports
Once you open or create a report, the data visualization chart and summary table update in real time as you add event cards, apply filters, or adjust measurement settings.
The following sections explain how to adjust your chart visualizations, analyze the row-by-row summary table, and apply filters and comparative views across your report workspace.
Select Chart Visualizations
Click the visualization dropdown on the far right of the chart toolbar to switch your chart layout. Select from the following options:
- Line: Displays trend lines over time.
- Stacked Area: Shows cumulative trends highlighting proportional contributions.
- Metric: Displays single aggregate summary values for key figures.
- Column / Stacked Column: Displays vertical bar comparisons across time intervals or dimensions.
- Bar: Displays horizontal bar charts broken down by selected dimensions.
- Pie: Displays proportional contribution splits.
Analyze the Data Summary Table
The data summary table situated beneath the main chart provides a granular row-by-row breakdown of your active metrics. Use this table to examine granular data, adjust what appears on your chart, and monitor ongoing time periods.
- Toggle metric lines: Check or uncheck the selection boxes next to any metric row to show or hide its line on the chart.
- Track incomplete periods: Review dotted lines on the chart and table to identify ongoing, partial time periods such as the current day or week. These dotted lines reflect real-time, partial data that updates continually until the period concludes.
Apply Filters and Comparisons
Use the controls positioned above the chart to customize your data scope, adjust time intervals, and compare performance trends. The available controls are:
-
Date Filter: Select a preset, such as Last 30 days, or choose custom dates from the calendar. Click Filter to apply the date range.
Note: By default, reports store up to 13 months of raw individual visitor data, while aggregated campaign-level data remains accessible for as long as your account is active. For more information, see our Data Retention Policy. - Visitor Segments: Filter your report by specific audiences. Search for a segment or browse Standard Segments such as Traffic Source, My Segments, or Custom Segments. Click Filter to apply the selected segments.
- Visitor Dimensions: Select a dimension, such as Device Type, Country, or Browser, to break down your report data. Click Apply to apply the selected dimension.
- Time Grouping: Use the middle interval dropdown (Day, Week, or Month) to adjust how frequently data points are plotted on your trend line.
-
Compare: Click the Compare dropdown on the left side of the chart to evaluate performance over time or across different audiences. Hover over or select a comparison mode from the following:
- Time Period: Compare current metric values against a previous timeframe (Previous Day, Previous 7 Days, or Previous 30 Days). The historical period appears as a comparative trend line on the chart and as an inline entry in the data summary table.
- Segment: Compare dimension values against a single baseline, for example, compare Mobile performance directly against Desktop.
-
Overall Contribution: View the percentage each segment contributes to the total.
Note: Compare is not available for Pie or Stacked Column charts, as both already display fully segmented data.
Investigate Metrics with User Insights
This feature bridges aggregate chart data and visitor behavior, helping you investigate the root causes of metric spikes, drops, and anomalies without leaving the report.
Click a data point in the chart or a metric in the data summary table to open the Click the chart for actions menu. Select an option to open the corresponding right-side panel:
- Session Recordings: View a table of recordings for the matching cohort, with location/source, pages viewed, duration, device/browser/OS, and observations for each. For more information, see Using Session Recordings Dashboard in Wingify and Interpreting Session Recordings in Wingify.
- Heatmaps: Generate a heatmap for the matching cohort. For more information, see Using Heatmaps Dashboard in Wingify and Interpreting Heatmap Reports in Wingify.
- View Users: Explore individual user records, including their attributes, events, and web recordings. For more information, see Working With Profiles in Wingify.
Manage Boards and Reports
Once configured, you can save, organize, or mark your report as a favorite. For complete instructions on managing reports and boards, see Working with Boards and Reports in Journey Analytics (link to be added).
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Resolution |
| Custom events do not appear in the search results when adding cards. | The event has not been created in Data360. |
Go to Data360 > Events and verify that the custom event has been created. Custom events that have not been created in Data360 will not be available for selection. For more information about Events in Data360, see Working with Events in Wingify. |
| Missing historical data for custom events. | Standard web events can capture historical data, but custom events start collecting data after they are created and configured. | Allow time for the custom event to collect data, or use a standard event where applicable. |
FAQs
-
Can I change the chart visualization type without losing my applied filters and events?
Yes. You can switch between the available visualization types without resetting your applied filters or event configurations.
-
Do changes made in the metric report alter my Data360 metric definitions?
No. The metric report operates as an independent analysis playground. Configuring measurement logic or creating funnels within a report will not affect global definitions in Data360.
-
Why do some line chart segments appear as dotted lines?
Dotted lines represent incomplete time intervals. These are ongoing time periods that are still in progress, such as viewing weekly data on a Wednesday when Thursday through Sunday have not yet occurred. If your selected date range includes an unfinished interval, Journey Analytics displays that segment as a dotted line to indicate partial, real-time data collection.
